COTECCONS HANDS OVER VIET Y STEEL PLANT – A NEW MILESTONE FOR HIGH-TECH INDUSTRY IN NORTHERN VIETNAM

Coteccons has successfully handed over the Viet Y Steel Plant at Nam Cau Kien Industrial Park, Thuy Nguyen District, Hai Phong City – a flagship project in the high-tech industrial construction sector in Northern Vietnam.

With complex technical requirements and high precision, the project is a clear testament to Coteccons’ professional, precise, and internationally-standardized construction capabilities – especially in industrial projects integrating high-tech production lines.

A Technically and Constructionally “Heavy” Project

The plant is built on an area of 3 hectares, including various components such as the main workshop, auxiliary areas, landscape infrastructure, and particularly the connection area between the old and new workshops. The overall structure is a perfect combination of solid reinforced concrete foundations and prefabricated steel frames up to 20 meters high, with three steel frame systems spanning approximately 28 meters each, using a total steel structure weight of 5,000 tons.

The steel frame structure with a span of 28 meters has been constructed to align with the operational design of the plant.

Leveraging experience in large-scale industrial projects, Coteccons has implemented methodical construction, tightly controlling the entire process, meeting stringent requirements for quality, safety, and progress.

Precision to Every Millimeter – Foundation for High-Tech Production Lines

As an industrial project integrating the most modern equipment, 100% imported from the world’s leading steel group Danieli (Italy), the Viet Y Steel Plant project sets special requirements for precision in construction – particularly in machine foundation components and equipment installation positions.

The modern conveyor belt system has been integrated into the foundation of the project’s machinery.

The machine foundation at the project has a complex structure, bearing heavy loads, and is designed with multiple elevations, steps, and special shapes to meet the installation requirements of high-tech production lines. Some rolling stands, such as JD21 and JD41, are installed through waiting plates arranged both vertically and horizontally.

The production line system is installed and anchored to the reinforced concrete machine foundations via pre-installed technological bolt holes

Notably, the entire project has over 5,000 bolt holes for equipment installation, each position constructed with a precision tolerance not exceeding ±10 mm. This required meticulous positioning and execution, ensuring the technical standards needed to integrate European-designed automation equipment were met effectively.

Additionally, the technical connection between the old and expanded workshops has been synchronously implemented by Coteccons, ensuring seamless production lines operate accurately without errors during operation.

The old workshop and the expanded workshop were seamlessly connected, enabling the production line to successfully conduct trial operations and produce the “first steel product”.

To achieve this near-perfect precision, Coteccons’ engineering team has closely coordinated with the investor, and various departments to implement specialized construction methods, mastering everything from shop drawings to actual implementation on-site. All procedures were carried out under strict safety controls, ensuring the highest construction quality, and laying a solid foundation for the subsequent operation of high-tech production lines.

Optimal Construction Measures, Aiming for Sustainable Industrial Space

Besides complex technical solutions and high completion accuracy, Coteccons also focuses on solutions to optimize costs and protect the environment. The natural lighting system on the roof, skylights, and louvers around the workshop walls not only minimize energy consumption but also create a spacious working environment, contributing to a sustainable and economical industrial space.

On-Time Handover – Affirming the Reputation and Overall Capability of Vietnam’s Top Contractor

The project was handed over on schedule after 14 months of construction, enabling the Viet Y Steel Plant to enter the operational phase as planned in May 2025. With a steel rolling capacity of 500,000 tons/year and a billet production line of 552,000 tons/year, the plant will significantly contribute to the development of Vietnam’s steel industry – providing high-quality, stable products for both domestic and international markets.

Hanoi – Nhan Dan Newspaper, in coordination with Coteccons Construction Joint Stock Company (CTD), officially launched the “Xây Tết 2026” program under the theme “Thank You to the Guardians of Happiness”. The program highlights the message that workers’ happiness is built upon 365 days of safe working practices. Safety as Culture, Right, and Responsibility Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Trinh Thuy Trang, Deputy CEO of Coteccons, emphasized that at Coteccons, the principle “If it is not safe, stop work” is not merely a slogan but a core operating rule. Safety engineers are empowered to halt construction to protect workers, and workers themselves are encouraged to refuse tasks that pose potential risks. This mindset transforms safety from a regulation into a voluntary daily practice. Ms. Nguyen Trinh Thuy Trang, Deputy CEO of Coteccons, delivers her remarks at the ceremony In the opening documentary of the event, a Coteccons safety engineer shared a perspective often perceived as that of a “villain” on construction sites—someone who constantly reminds and enforces compliance. Yet, this strictness helps workers build awareness and refuse to work at unsafe, poorly protected sites. The story reflects a reality in which safety has become a defining cultural value across Coteccons’ projects. Why Safety? The construction industry is among those with the highest rates of occupational accidents. Therefore, Coteccons selected “safety” as the central theme of “Xây Tết 2026″ to reaffirm that economic development must go hand in hand with human protection. As a contractor involved in numerous national
